Re-release Decision! The Tolmekian Armored Soldier from 'Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind' is Now a Takeya-Style Movable Figure!
'Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind' is a masterpiece manga by Hayao Miyazaki, later adapted into an influential animated film. The Tolmekian armored soldiers, who served as the personal guard for Kushana, the commander who suddenly attacked the Valley of the Wind where Nausicaä lives, and who symbolized the strength of Tolmekia with their imposing presence, are now action figures in the Takeya-style movable series.
Though the design resembles Western armor, the heavy armor is reimagined by Takayuki Takeya, using ceramics as the material. Not only does it incorporate the animation settings, but also ideas and details from the original manga, giving the figure a sense of realism akin to actual armor.
Decorative details and shapes have been added to the armor, exuding the dignity befitting a royal guard. The figure also captures the stocky yet powerful proportions of the Tolmekian armored soldier, designed to withstand enemy attacks.
Highly posable, the armor's multi-layered structure has been skillfully divided to accommodate joints, allowing for dynamic poses such as swinging swords and axes, as seen in the film.
The figure includes a greatsword sheathed at the side, a battle axe, and a large shield, enabling the recreation of various battle scenes from both the animation and the original manga.
The armor's coloring
is rendered in a metallic finish, enhancing the figure's sense of heaviness. Movable joints are also placed on the shoulder and neck plates, ensuring that the structure does not hinder posing.
Details like the fasteners securing the armor, the gambeson worn underneath, and the belt used to hang the greatsword, all recreate features seen in the original manga.
The chainmail around the waist is segmented and movable, allowing for a wider stance than it might appear. The grass skirt at the front of the waist is also equipped with movable joints at the base.
Although the cape is a fixed type prioritizing its shape, it can move at the base, allowing for more dramatic poses.
The handles of the axe and sword include shapes and details observable in the original manga, with expressions suggesting their imagined manufacturing process.
The large shield replicates the spring-loaded claw mechanism attached to the shield's tip, as seen in the manga. The claws can be extended and retracted.
